Volunteers at McLane Children's

We celebrate our volunteers and all they do at McLane Children's! Volunteers who donate their time and talents to McLane Children’s Medical Center play a vital role in delivering a positive experience for our patients and families.  Our volunteers work alongside our healthcare team and support our mission to provide personalized health & wellness through exemplary care.

To Get Started:

  • Complete a volunteer application
  • Participate in a personal interview with Volunteer Services
  • Complete a medical screening
  • Attend an orientation
    • All volunteers attend a 2-hour hospital orientation
    • Volunteers that will have direct patient contact will attend an additional 1-hour Patient Care orientation
  • Receive training for assigned area of service
  • Attend mandatory additional training/education each year.

We are committed to providing our patients and families with a meaningful experience at McLane Children’s and volunteers are an important part of the team.  Therefore, we ask that all volunteers commit to giving a minimum of three hours a week and at least six months of service.

How to Become a Volunteer

Volunteers Services at McLane Children’s Medical Center offers a variety of opportunities for volunteer work. Volunteers over the age of 18 that can make a significant time commitment and has a passion for helping others, may be a great fit for our program.

Junior Volunteer Program

McLane Children’s offers volunteer opportunities for high school students (Sophomore – Senior).  This provides an excellent opportunity for students to interact with healthcare professionals and learn in a medical setting.

The program is 4 weeks in length and students will 4 hours per day / 2 days per week.  Students can select from one of two sessions.

Session 1:  June 19 – July 14

Session 2:  July 17 – August 11

To be considered, a student must:

  • Complete a Junior Volunteer application ​
  • Obtain 2 teacher references
  • Have all parental consent forms completed 
  • Participate in a personal interview with Volunteer Services
  • Complete a medical screening
  • Attend an orientation

Applications are due no later than April 21, 2017.  Number of students is limited and completion of application does not guarantee placement.

All applicants will be notified of their status no later than May 12, 2017.​
